How to save Money as a Student

If you are an average student, chances are that your financial state isn’t the best. You have to spend money in food, transportation, tools for college and so many more things, that most of the time you don’t have enough money to do the things you love. So being a student myself I decided to make a list of ways you can save some money as a student.

FOOD

When you first live by yourself chances are that you don’t really want to cook your own food. You are bored, you don’t have time or simply you are not good at cooking. This can make you eat out and order take outs all the time, and we all know take outs are more expensive than cooking your food. So If you really want to save some money you need to get into the kitchen and start cooking your food. If you don’t really know what to buy from the grocery store or what to cook, check out my food haul or any of my recipes.

HOME

If you live by yourself or even in a dorm room through your university years, you need to buy A LOT of stuff. And that alone can be a killer for your wallet. Here are some ways that you can save some money when you buy your first furniture.

Check out thrift stores: You can be surprised about the things you can find in thrift stores. You may find the perfect desk and paint it in the color you like, a really cool vintage mirror, even a bookcase.
Dig into your parent’s storeroom: There you will find old tables or chairs, just like a thrift store, that your parents don’t need anymore. That way you can make the most out of stuff that your family has already spend money on, and you will only have to spend money on supplies for fixing or painting.
Always shop on sale time: Be patient and don’t rush to the shops. Wait for special discounts for students (most of the time they put them in September) or simply sales. You can save a lot of money, just be sure to go at the very start of the sale time or you won’t find everything you want.

MAKE THE MOST OUT OF YOUR STUDENT ID

Many shops offer special prices and discounts for students If you have your student ID with you. In my country for example you can watch movies or eat cheaper in certain shops, certain days. So the next time you and your friend want to go out check out the stores that offer discounts for students.

SOME MORE SMALL TIPS

Use your bike or public transportation if you want to go somewhere. It’s a lot cheaper and eco-friendly.
Don’t smoke or drink alcohol. (Seriously it's REALLY bad for you and you throw money into the garbage bin.)
Use the campus gym and the free food service if your university offers one.
Don’t be tempted to go shopping when you get your check at the start of the month.
Rent your textbooks if your university doesn’t offer them for free (Mine does)
If you want to go for a trip at summer brake book in advance and look for hostels and hotels that have special prices for students.

How to Gain Followers on Tumblr

Today I will be sharing with you basic tips and tricks I’ve learned over the years on my Tumblr journey on how to gain followers!

SET UP A QUEUE

This is by far the most important tip on how to gain Tumblr followers. It’s really important to be active 24/7 if you really want to get traffic at your blog and gain followers. That way new people can find you even when you are sleeping. Except from the queue in Tumblr I use qplus.io because it gives you the option to put more posts in queue.(Tumblr only gives you 300 posts, q+ gives 600, combine them and you have posts for days!)

You can also use Archive Poster, it really helps with setting up you queue, you just got to a blogs url and put at the and /archive (example: www.dar-kn-ess.tumblr.com/archive) and hit enter. You now get a page with all the posts of that blog, you can click whatever post you want and post it, or queue it up in qplus or the standar queue option Tumblr gives you.

As for the queue set up, put it from 12 am to 12 am and I personaly set my queue to post 50 posts a day.

HAVE A SPECIFIC THEME

Well this one is obvious, but you need to have a specific theme (black and white, grunge, summer, anime, boho, aesthetic, nature and the list goes on). You followers will be really confused if they follow you because you have a b&w grunge theme and one day they see colorful anime posts. If you want you can set up another blog for something different.

FOLLOW SIMILAR BLOGS

If you reach out and follow people that have the same taste as you its more likely for them to follow you back. And you can also get inspired from them.

FOLLOW BACK*

We all know the follow back tactic, but be careful. Don’t overdo it! Just stick to the upper tip, follow similar blogs to yours and don’t expect everyone to follow you back. The follow limit at Tumblr is 5.000 and if you want to clear up you can use the extension Xkit (the link I give you is a copy of the original, because the first one is broken and the guy that had it is unable it fix it atm.) which has an extension that finds inactive blogs you follow, so that way you can clear up space.

*ALERT* The following link I will give I think is against of some of the rules Tumblr has, so use at your own risk. I personally hardly ever use it because the people that follow you only want a follow back and thus they never interact with you. The site is Blog-Plug and you just put your blogs url and a description about the theme of your blog, you then choose three categories that fit your blog and you post that mini resume for everyone to see and follow. There is also a option to let people know if you follow back or not.

INTERACT WITH YOUR FOLLOWERS

Send messages,asks host a QnA, be kind and answer every message you take (if that’s possible). That way you look more appealing to your audience, and you can meet some awesome people too!

BE YOURSELF

It’s really easy to get distracted and put a different personality on Tumblr, but guess what: if you don’t want to, NO ONE can know your real name or your country. Be yourself, be honest. Tumblr is a great community that supports anyone. Don’t be afraid to show how beautiful you really are!

WHAT I LEARNED FROM MY FIRST JOB

Your first job experience is always scary. You don’t know what to do, you are anxious because you want to do well and don’t disappoint your boss. But it’s a really important experience and you can learn a lot from it, like how the market works or you can discover what profession you want to follow. Today I will be sharing with you my story and what I learned from my first job.

BACKSTORY

My first job was in a café/ beach bar in my hometown. My father found this job for me, because I live in a really small town and it’s had to find places to work. I was almost 18 at the time and my job was to clean the glasses and help on whatever work would come up. I was working 2-3 times a week, mostly at the weekends, from 10 PM to 6 or 7 AM. For me it was hard because I was standing up all night and the loud music was a pain for my head.

PROS AND CONS

The good think was obviously the earnings. I was still living with my parents (and I still do for at least 2 more months) and it was a financial relief for my father because I could afford my expenses. I also got to learn how to behave more like an adult and more professionally, something really beneficial for me because I would find myself in situations where I would let older people than me insult me or do wrong by me just because they were older, something that was stuck with me from school.

The cons from that particular job and much more than I could admit. First of all, I was out of place. I hated clubs and I still do, I hate the music and the overall style. I was feeling uneasy every time I was working and this would translate to stress and luck of sleep. I was the younger one of the workers in the café/beach bar and everyone would look at me as a child, so when I was done with work ( there were time during the night that all the glasses were clean or out for use) and I would just sit alone with my phone in the back of the café.

WHAT I LEARNED

First of all, I learned to be patient. I wasn’t there to have fun, I was there to work.
I socialized as much the work could let us with my co-workers.
I learned to value every single euro that comes to my hands.
I stopped having huge expectations from my parents because I knew how hard it was to make an income.

TIPS

If you can get a part time job at a young age I encourage you to go for it. You grow as a person, you make some extra money for things you want to buy or to help a bit in the house. And you get some experience in market, it’s the best of both worlds. Just look for something you enjoy doing and go at full speed!

5 Tips To Survive First Day At University/College

University is a big step for everyone, a huge change to their lives and a challenge as well. But that doesn’t mean it’s something to be afraid off. I know for a fact that extrovert people have it better at meeting new people and adapting to new situations. That’s why I think this tips for surviving the first day at university/college are more suitable for the shy ones like me that are too scared to speak out and approach other people. I know that if I was left alone the first day I went to a class, I wouldn’t have met some amazing people. So take a deep breath and let’s get started.

1. KNOW YOUR SURROUNDINGS

Its best to know the campus a bit before the first day, when the place is crowded and you have to figure were to go. I suggest you go there a week or two before the start of the semester. Everyone is still away and the place is really quiet. You can then figure were your classes, the cafeteria, the library,Student Support etc are. That way you will be familiar with the place and you won’t panic at the first day if for example you couldn’t find one of the classrooms.

2. THE "“NOT LYING”"

If you want to make friends and you don’t know how to start a conversation, simply ask if this is the right room, or were the library is. You may already know the answers, but it’s a really nice way to approach someone for the first time, and you are checking if your discoveries on your little pre-semester adventure were right. You can also introduce yourself to those who are sitting next to you inside the amphitheater. Or if you are too shy you can ask what the time is, or if they have a spare pen.But don’t worry. People there are just like you. They want to make friends too, so someone will approach you even if you don’t. But don’t relay to others. You don’t know if the person next to you wants to talk to you and they just are too shy. Great things come to those who are brave!

3. DON'T BECOME THE PHANTOM

It’s super important not to miss the first day. Or any other class to be fair, but especially the first day. It’s the day everyone is urging to make friends, the day everyone is talking to everyone, the day you can meet the most amazing people. After that everyone knows someone and they will be for the most part hanging out together. New people don’t get as easily approached by others as at the first day.

4. BE PREPARED

Make sure to have the right stuff so can take notes and don’t miss out on something about your studies. Check your bag before you go, and take with you things like pepper, a pepper folder so you white on, a pen or two, and you student ID. You can also check out my University Bag Essentials here.

5. SMILE AND BE POSITIVE

This is cliché but mindset counts! If you have a really negative mindset and believe you can’t survive the first day at university, or that you won’t make any friends, it might become true. Just smile, think positive and have faith to yourself that you will rock the first day. And remember: the best years of your life are now starting. Enjoy them!

I don't really remember. There were many times throughout

high school that I almost chocked to death because I was laughing

and drinking water at the same time! Good times.

Does the country I live counts? Because I never went anywhere out of it. Sad, sad I know.

I don't know if college and University are the same at Murica, but if so I am currently in college, and I study Sociology!

Favorite: Literature

Worst: Physics.Ew.

Well, look around. Wolves of curse!

All the Harry Potter franchise, but I can't leave out Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Re watched both of them countless times. Love them!

Winter, on a cozy little vintage coffee shop.

Even though I hate summers, I really loved when my family and I would go on the beach at night with a bunch pizzas and just talk and play.

It's called "Sushi Koi Bar", it's at the center of Athens and it server, you guest it, sushi! Cheap and tasty, the students paradise!

Oh boy! Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, The Flash, Arrow and list goes on and on! Real TV junky.

Pc all the way, though I would kill for Final Cut Pro!
