Especially when you can't leave your little glass box that has protected you for so long.
Being introvert, shy, and super honest I always had trouble making- and keeping- friends. Always something bad happened and I would end up alone and sad.
I've learned this the hard way, but making friends its giving and receiving. You can't just expect them to brake the glass box for you.
And that's what I love about making friends. The growth and joy you get, the happiness that comes with meeting new people, its magical.
It might be hard first, you might feel lost, feel like there's something wrong with you, that never, no one will understand you as a person, that no one will see the good bits of you personality.
These are some tips I personally use to overcome the wall I made and connect with people and make friends.
⟐ Breath.
It can get difficult to speak to a person for the first time. Before you approach someone, just breath. Empty your mind with "what would go wrong" and smile. This might be the start of a wonderful friendship!
⟐ Common.
Its easier to make friends when you for sure have something in common to begin with. Classmates, members of the same club, colored hair, piercings, band T-shirts, same destination. I personally think that the best places to make friends are university and clubs. At Uni you are older and more mature, you have figured out yourself for the most part and plus studying the same subject with someone else can be a huge starting point of a friendship. The same applies for clubs.
⟐Commit
A friendship is not one-sided. Don't get mad if your friend doesn't call you for a walk or to grab coffee, you are a part of that friendship too. Take the time to understand the other person, to feel what they like or what they don't. And never puss an idea, or a plan if they have shown that they don't really like it. h
